MCV and MCV Housing

For the better part of two centuries, the mission of the VCU School of Medicine has balanced teaching, research and patient care. In recent years, the mission has been defined as “the constant improvement of the quality of health care for citizens of Virginia using innovative, scholarly activity to create new knowledge, to provide better systems of medical education and to develop more effective health care methods.” VCU School of Medicine website

Founded in 1838 as the Medical Department of Hampton Sydney College, The Virginia Commonwealth School of Medicine today attracts students from all over the world to pursuit careers in the medical field and research.

Options for MCV housing have evolved exponentially over the past several years as the many neighborhoods that surround the MCV/VCU Medical School campus have undergone massive renovation and rehabilitation. Whereas the MCV housing message boards used to talk about the danger of the surrounding areas, they now talk about the amazing array of dynamic housing options located in close proximity for the inbound MCV student.

The Jackson Ward neighborhood, which borders MCV to the west, is now home to such projects as the Emrick Flats, the Marshall Street Bakery, the 212 Condos, and studio 516 with several others on the way. Other neighborhoods that are a mere few blocks away and part of downtown, Church Hill and Shockoe to the east and Manchester to the south, also have some interesting options.

Collectively, these projects offer a diverse level of styles, prices and finishes with different features that can accommodate almost all tastes and budgets. If the need is for larger and more refined spaces, the Sterling Row project may be a great option. If the need is for small and very affordable, then Studio 516 may be a better option. The Reserve in Church Hill offers one of the nicest level of finishing touches in all of Richmond. Many of these projects already have a strong MCV contingent amongst the residents as the space, proximity and maintenance free lifestyle lends itself well to the needs of the MCV student body, residents and interns.

Whatever the MCV housing need, the projects that dot the downtown Richmond landscape offer something for everyone.
